The
Joplin Humane Society...Numbers We Need to Share
There were approximately 10,750 animals brought
to the Joplin Humane Society in 2007. 7% of
those were returned to their owners, 1,616 were
adopted. If you do the math, that leaves over
7,900 animals that were EUTHANIZED; a staggering
number that MUST be reduced.
The Joplin Humane Society currently houses over
8,500 animals each year, in a facility that is
approximately 40 years old and designed to house
approximately 1,500 animals. The Joplin Humane
Society has a contractual agreement with 17
entities to provide shelter and humane services
for all animals. Each year that number is
increasing and we profess to be a voice for
these innocent beings, and it is our
responsibility to make that voice heard. In the
words of the eloquent Spanish philosopher,
Miguel Unamuno, "Sometimes to be silent is to
lie."
To do this we mustn't be silent, but we must
SHOUT the numbers that represent the brutal
truth. OVER 7,900 EUTHANIZED AT THE JOPLIN
HUMANE SOCIETY. The Joplin Humane Society is a
501(c)(3), privately funded through donations
from people like you. Our support comes from
individuals, corporations, special events,
grants, bequests and city contracts. No funding
is provided by the state or federal governments,
nor the United Way or any national or
international animal welfare groups. We receive,
house and serve thousands of animals every year
and all animals are cared for with monies
provided by donations from caring individuals
like you.

Did you
know...
...that
your time is just as valuable to us
as money? Volunteer hours help us
out for our events and mobile
adoptions. We also have several
volunteers that help us out in the
shelter itself. We would be nothing
without them! We also accept food,
cat litter, puppy pad, toy, treat,
and newspaper donations.
Thank you!
